Convention Day 3!

Date August 10, 2008

Prize Patrol!

Sprinkled through the three days of convention were many times where the Prize Patrol came running out with prizes for those that had matching wristbands for that particular prize!  Talk about dancing in the aisles for that! Here are Alice Simonds and Carol Soulier with the prize they both won on Saturday!  They’re both a couple of my Inky Fingered Friends buddies - Alice is our leader!  Congratulations you two!!!

THEN! The men in brown showed up and the sky let loose with confetti!!  Since Stampin’ Up! is such a big supporter of UPS, UPS brought each of the convention attendees one of the new Ronald McDonald House Charity stamp sets - called "Say It With Scallops".  What an incredible moment that was!! I couldn’t resist including the following pictures!  They even drove a UPS truck onto the stage for the surprise!

My friend and convention roommate, Lynne Miller celebrating!

Lynne and my other convention roommate, Alice Simonds.

Everyone enjoying the FUN!  Woo Hoo!!!

Finally, here’s a picture of the stamp set that we all received!  It will go great with the new Scallop Square Punch!

I’ve gotta say that it was sad to leave this all behind….  But, the time at convention allowed me to learn about new and old techniques, new products coming out soon, make new friends, and build stronger ties with those I already knew.  I had an absolutely awesome time and plan to go back next year!!!  Thanks, Stampin’ Up!

Convention Day 2!

Sizzix Big Shot Announcement!

Shelli announced during the main session that Stampin’ Up! has partnered with Sizzix to now offer the Big Shot ($99.95) along with Stampin’ Up! exclusive dies for our customers beginning Sept.2nd!  WOW!  What an amazing suprise this was for everyone….the crowd literally went WILD and there was dancing in the aisles!  This new tool (6-time winner of Creating Keepsakes Reader’s Choice Award) manually die cuts, embosses, cuts through multiple layers of cardstock, SU!’s designer series paper and 50 other materials!  Imagine what we’ll be able to create with this awesome little machine!  See more pics below!  The possibilities are endless!!!

This last pic is of Lynne Miller (on the right) and me with our new Stampahowlics shirts on.  Our very own Stacey Carter from our Inky Fingered Friends group designed the shirts - aren’t they great?  Notice how well the colors match up with our new In Colors?

Convention Day 1!

Date August 10, 2008

All I Can Say Is WOW!!!

I’ve heard so many demonstrators say that every year Convention just gets better and better, and since this is my first year as a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator AND first year at Convention, all I can say is WOW!!!  Stampin’ Up! knows how to plan these events and they do it WELL!  I was awestruck!    So, here are a few pics and details from the "official" start of Convention…even though we did many things the day before!  The first pic is of the opening number that went along with the theme of Celebrate ‘08 where some of the Stampin’ Up! employees helped open Convention!  The next pic is of things to come - a teaser!

Then they showed the cover of the catalog…although we had all seen it…but here it is for you!  DEBUTING on Aug. 11th!!!  It is AWESOME!

Here’s a pic of some of the new punches that are featured in the catalog…can’t wait to order them!  They are from the left:  Curly Label Punch, Wide Oval Punch, 1 3/4" Circle Punch, Scallop Square Punch.

The next pics are of the new line of Decor Elements that will be unveiled in October!  They are so cool!  More color and designs will be offered with these!

Don’t ya just love this Spooky Spider on a candy jar??

Here’s another sample of a very cool new Decor Element called "Season of Thanks".  Here they took a a shadow box frame and put the Decor Elements words on the glass, then filled it with items for fall - leaves, pinecones, etc.

So with lunch, everyone was served cupcakes decorated with the 20th anniversary logo - and they couldn’t keep their hands off of them!  Ha! Ha!

Finally, here’s some of the Inky Fingered Friends group that went to convention together.  From the left:  Stacey Carter, Carol Soulier, Lynne Miller, me, Angie Feught, Alice Simonds.

Day Before Convention!

Date August 10, 2008

July 30th - There was Excitement in the Air!

Several of us decided to go out to Salt Lake City a day early (on Tuesday).  So, our first stop was to get in line for Momento Mall at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City.  This was what the line looked like when we got in line…pretty early in the morning.  If you think this looks long, you should have seen it in the afternoon!  It went a long way around and down the looonnnnggg hallway!  Whew!  Glad we got there when we did!

Here’s a pic of me after shopping!  Hee! Hee!

Next stop was picking up our new catalogs and awesome messenger bags that all the convention attendees received.  I’m waiting for some pictures from friends for this spot - I had my picture taken with Linda Hansen, a Training Event Facilitator.  Linda has a wonderful personality and is a really bubbly person!

Then we went on the tour of the Riverton campus - what a beautiful facility!  Here’s where the Stampin’ Up! offices are as well as the picking and shipping area.  It was a really interesting tour…my camera battery died on me here and I’m waiting to get other pictures of the tour from friends that I can include here.

Bag in a Box for my Convention Room-mates

Since this was my first Stampin’ Up! Convention, I wanted to give something really nice to my two room-mates, but was a bit at a loss for what to do.  Thanks to Paula Goff’s instructions at this link, I created these, and they became their "pillow" gifts!: inkingaddict.blogspot.com/2008/06/would-you-like-to-made-box-in-bag.html    I decided to make these cute bag-in-a box holders for some goodies for each of them.  Because I had quite a few things to add to the bags, I tweaked the instructions to make them larger and had to use two sheets of designer series paper to go all the way around the base.  I used the new Bella Rose DSP…don’t you just love it?  They loved their gifts!       Here’s a picture of the note I placed inside the bag.

   Swap #3!

I used one of the new level 3 Hostess sets from the Fall/Winter idea book and catalog for my third swap.  Yes, I decided to do three swaps, but only because I wanted to swap 6"x6" scrapbook pages so I could get more ideas for scrapbook layouts (I’m still learning about this!).  So I settled on a stamp set to use, then chose some of the new In Colors to highlight in the layout.  As a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator, we were offered the opportunity to get one level 2 and one level 3 Hostess stamp set early so we could "play" with them!  Again, I have to say that Stampin’ Up! is an awesome company and you could also take advantage of the opportunity to become a demonstrator!  Just e-mail me at wandasstampin@aol.com or call my phone number at the top of this page for more details!

I decided to try a 2-page layout, even though I was told that some people may want to swap only one page.  So, I needed to create my pages so they would work well together or could work well on their own.  What do you think?  For the background of the pages I used Always Artichoke with So Saffron on top of it.  After that I began to work in the new In Colors of Tangerine Tango, Baja Breeze, Kiwi Kiss and Pacific Point for cardstock and ink.  For the flower stems and leaves I  used Always Artichoke ink but layered on Kiwi Kiss ink since this set has flowers, leaves and butterflies that allow for the two-step process of stamping. For the flowers, I layered Baja Breeze on top of Pacific Point.  I also used the new Scallop Edge punch for the different scallop edges that you see here - another early purchase opportunity that I had as a demonstrator.  Oh my goodness!  You should see the new punches that will be available with the new catalog! I can’t wait to order them!  We were able to see many of them demonstrated at convention…and on that note, my next post will be on some of the convention highlights!!

Party Hearty!

Date August 3, 2008

Swap #2!

I seriously miscalculated the time it would take to make swaps for the Stampin’ Up! convention!  Whew!  I was making swaps at the airport and for the first night or two at convention (we did go out to Salt Lake City a day early), and I did get them done!  Here’s a teaser for the cards I made using the Party Hearty stamp set!  Notice the new In Colors????  I just love ‘em!!!  I was able to get the Party Hearty stamp set (one of the new set’s in the Fall/Winter idea book & catalog!) as an incentive through Stampin’ Up!  What a great company!  You, too could receive stamp sets and other items that are offered from time to time if you would sign up as a demonstrator!  Let me know if you interested!

OK…..here’s the actual card.  I used Tangerine Tango, Pacific Point, Baja Breeze, Kiwi Kiss and Whisper White cardstock.  For ink, I only used Tangerine Tango and Pacific Point.  I also added Dazzling Diamonds glitter to parts of the card to add that extra dazzle!  If I were to do this card over, I would have stamped and cut out the party hats in different colors and probably would have made some of them stand out using dimensionals.  But, given the time it would have taken to accomplish that, I gave up that idea pretty quickly! Ha!

Wonderful You Convention Swap

Date July 23, 2008

One of my swaps…

Here’s  final pics of one of the swaps I’m making for convention.  I still have to finish making these and then on to the next one!  How many days do I have left???

This was made using the Wonderful You stamp set as well as the Stems & Silhouettes Wheel.  Cardstock used was Always Artichoke, Naturals Ivory and Elegant Eggplant.  Inks were Always Artichoke, Elegant Eggplant and Pale Plum. The 1/4" Eggplant grosgrain ribbon was used as well as Dazzling Diamonds  on the center of the flowers.

See you at Convention!!!
